THE TRIANGLE by RalphNiese THE TRIANGLE by RalphNiese
Pirate Handsome Jaques and Ninja Katsu were stranded ages before on an island both their cards didnīt knew and happened to be both in this misfortune - they live in peace....
But the old feud between Pirates and Ninjas flames anew, when 400 years later photographer Sandraīs plane crashs on this mysterious island!!!

THE TRIANGLE - story A. Bruzzese - art Ralph Niese

our attempt for Antarctic Pressī "Pirates Vs. Ninjas Annual"
closing next friday...uffz! i keep you updated, when it should be published. ;)

5 YEARS LATER EDIT
holy matoufli, what's up today?? Another update?
I ran a bit late with celebrating my 6th birthday on here, though that just on the side, i found this one theme with 'pick an old pic from the gallery and draw it now' and flipped through the stuff here, going on most all 'meh' or 'too elaborate' and actually questioned myself on this one here, if i had it even finished... and behold, here it is!
2008, 2 days of pencils, inks, sweat, and handlettering in Illustrator(wtf!) with the drawing pen and a 'custom' tip - - geezus, hilarious. but looks kinda cool. the lettering. the comic itself is kinda wonky to read, but you decide.

Seriously, is there anything you can't do? It's irritating. :pissedoff::D

the tonal work is awesome. love love the lines too. What program are you using for the halftones?

photoshop! just check on filters under 'pixelate' and 'halftones' - make sure though yo work in 'greyscale' or 'cmyk' since 'rgb' just looks shitty in halftones.

who will finally get the young lady? =P

I really like the use of grayscale here (the dots look terrific), and the way the ninja/samurai looks like is fantastic, great pose! Bravo!

thanks diego!
for the howto-record: i used a 35% grey and a 70% of blackness for the dots, which does a wonderful depth!

Awesome! Last night I was adding dots to some pages I'm coloring, and another thing I figured looked good was to erase some dots, very softly, with the eraser tool in photoshop down to 25 % or something, and it makes for a nice effect.

yeah, i think i know what you mean - i made something like this here [link]
with real ziptone-foils it#s cool working, too, erasing the lights out with a knife is really fun. but it´s just too expensive and you can ruin your art very easy.

That's awesome! I love the old school comics feeling that you got with the dots and color in that piece.

What I meant was a bit more like this image [link] where (if viewed at full size) it can be seen a kind of "degradé" (what's the english word for that??? it's when you have like a same tone and it gets darker to one hand, and lighter to the other), and I figured an effect like that could be done with the eraser tool. Though I'm sure there are more ways, of course.

A couple of years ago I tried to buy real ziptone foils but I was told it's been years since they stopped doing them. "You have to do it digitally", I was told by the guy at the store. Ha!

I remember reading that after a long time, the originals with real ziptone get ruined very easily, which sucks...

getting a somewhat dimension into this crabswave was abit more struggling. the ziptone makes it looking good at last - hm, not sure - maybe a 3 hour all arround(?). also drawing plants is like meditating ~ time is equal :D
